GOOGLE’s NEW SEARCH SNIPPET FEATURE IS NOW AVAILABLE

Tags:

Google has recently announced the new feature added to their search algorithm called Search Snippet. This is a new feature that can help searchers by providing links within the snippet to sections relevant to the query within the site, making it faster and easier for searchers to find exactly what they are looking for, not just taking them to a page with high rankings but only mentioned the keyword once.  For website owners, it is an amazing strategy to increase search engine visibility.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Based on page structure, Google generates these deep links algorithmically. This new algorithm has recently made it possible for different named anchors of the page (subtopic sections) to individually rank at search engine result pages (SERP).  Google search snippet shows part of a webpage as a subtopic with a different URL at the same page. These results are indicated by phrase ‘Jump to’.

HOW CAN WE GET THIS?

Google generates these completely algorithmically based on the page structure of the site. It can’t be put by someone just like with the site links. The snippet links only appear for relevant queries. It can’t be seen on the results all the time and only shows up when Google thinks that the link to a section would be highly useful for a particular query. Here are points to remember to increase the chances of getting search snippet within the site links.

FOR WEBMASTERS:
•    Make long, multi-topic pages.
•    Make the pages well structured.
•    Make the pages broken into distinct logical section
•    Make sure each section has an associated anchor with a descriptive name.
•    Make sure that the page has a table of contents.

FOR SITE OWNERS AND SEO PURPOSES
•    Plan to write comprehensive long articles, posts, textual content for the site/blog.
•    Divide the content into several subtopics, headings, etc.
•    Create named anchors to identify sections on the page.
•    Write a descriptive phrase for each section.
•    Make sure to use the keywords at these name anchors.

WHERE CAN WE IMPLEMENT THIS?
This can be implemented at the following pages in the website.
•    FAQ’s Page
•    HELP Page
•    ABOUT US Page
•    Or any page having lots of information that categorized and fall into subtopics.

If we want to help our users navigate on our pages with long contents, then we can start putting internal anchor links on our site pages that has long information. Through this strategy, we can eventually add more search engine visibility of our pages.
